Recently, the Public Library partnered with OCM Boces to provide students access to public library ebooks without a library card. Schools that utilize Sora, a school version of OverDrive, can now add a library to their school’s login account and connect to Onondaga County Public Library ebooks and audiobooks catalog.
The Public Library CONNECT partnership is with all the schools covered under OCM Boces, including, but not limited to, Baldwinsville, Liverpool, and North Syracuse School Districts. The library is always looking for ways to expand its reach, and connecting via Public Library Connect is one way the public library can provide more children access to books.
Once your child is logged into the Sora app, all they have to do is select “Add a Public Library” found in the right-hand menu and select the nearest library, such as “Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL)” from the drop-down menu. Once added, age-appropriate library books will automatically be added to your child’s collection.
Schools outside OCM Boces that use Sora, such as Bishop Grimes and St. Rose of Lima, can also add library books to their child’s collection, but they will need to submit a library card number and PIN to connect. Although NOPL is fine-free, Sora provides youth with books at any time, helping to bypass trips to the library or lost book fees.
Sora login information should be available from your child’s school. To receive assistance adding a public library to your child’s Sora account, visit your public library; have your Sora login information handy, and a librarian will help set it up.
