To reserve the equipment for use, you can request the usage of the space online or call the library to schedule your appointment. Digitize Photos

Old PhotosDigitize those precious family photos!

Our equipment can quickly scan through stacks of loose photos or photo album pages that include mounted photos (up to 50 photos per minute!). The digital photos will have a resolution of 300 dpi and can be saved to a CD, DVD or flash drive. See a video demonstration of the flatbed scanner and the photo-feed scanner on YouTube.

Convert VHS to DVD

VHSTransfer your old VHS tapes to digital!

Transfer old home movies on VHS to DVD for your personal viewing pleasure. Please note that digitization happens in “real time”, so a 1 hour VHS will take about 1.5 hours to transfer to DVD. Scan Slides

Photo SlidesPreserve your 35mm photo slides!

Rediscover and digitize that box of old loose slides or slide carousels. You’ll be able to scan up to 15 slides/minute and save your digitized copies to an SD card. Laptops with SD card readers are available if you wish to move your digitized slides to a DVD, CD or flash drive. See a video demonstration of the slide converter on YouTube.

Convert Film Negatives

Film NegativesTurn film negatives into digital images!

Convert all your film slides and negatives into digital images. All 35mm (photo & archive), 127, 126, and 110 slides/negatives can be converted into 20 megapixel digital JPEG images to share and preserve. Learn more about how our film type digital converter works on YouTube.

Laminate Photos & Documents

Use the laminator to protect and strengthen photos and documents up to .02 inches thick (1/50th of an inch) and up to letter size, 8.5 x 11 inches. Only lamination sheets provided by the library can be used and may be purchased, at cost, from the circulation desk. No appointment is required, however it is recommended to call ahead. Please note: The library is not responsible for any loss of personal property resulting from the use of the laminator. Full details and instructions are available in the Preservation Studio.

FAQs

When you make an appointment we can verify that the equipment that you’d like to use is available and reserve it for you, we’ll answer any questions you might have prior to your visit, and we can provide you with extra help while you’re using the Preservation Studio.

We do offer color printing on standard, all-purpose paper. If you’d like to print your images on photo paper, we recommend that you upload your photos to websites like Target, Walmart, Walgreens or Kinney Drug and order prints to pick up in store, or bring your SD card to the kiosks inside those stores to have prints made.

You must remain in the library while converting files. If you choose to walk around the library during the recording time and leave items unattended, please be aware that you do so at your own risk.

A 1GB SD card should hold approximately 300 photos in JPEG format.

We encourage you to bring your own storage device, but we do have DVDs, CDs, SD cards and flash drives available for purchase (at cost).

NOPL is not responsible for damage to your items while using any conversion equipment.
