Northern Onondaga Public Library Online Databases

Access full-text magazine and journal articles, newspapers, and reference books 24 hours a day with your OCPL library card and PIN.  If you do not have a PIN, or can not remember your PIN, please contact your library for assistance.

 The New York State Library currently provides free access to online resources through the New York Online Virtual Electronic Library,      This statewide program is funded by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services through a Library Services and Technology Act grant. The NOVEL collection of databases is available to all library patrons for in-library use as well as remote use from outside the library. Additional databases are provided by the Northern Onondaga County Public Library and the Onondaga County Public Library.

• ReferenceUSA - Business and residential phone numbers, addresses and other detailed information.

• LearningExpress Library - Interactive online practice for academic and licensing tests including civil service, ACT, ASVAB, GED, SAT and more.

• Ferguson's Career Center - Detailed and up-to-date job and industry profiles including job hunting and workplace skills, resume templates, information about apprenticeships and internships, college planning and financial aid directories. Perfect for students, job seekers, guidance counselors, college career counselors, and career professionals.

   

Encyclopedias

• Encyclopedia Americana  - In-depth research and worldwide current events for older students and adults.

• Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia   - Based on the full text of the Academic American Encyclopedia with extensive articles and rich media resources for middle school and high school students.

• New Book of Knowledge  - Reference and current events for elementary school and up. Fun and easy to use with leveled text to help students gain access to a wide range of topics.

• Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia   - Provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.

Genealogy

• Heritage Quest - A collection of genealogical resources with digitized books and periodicals containing family and local histories from around the country, and searchable images of the complete U.S. Federal census, 1790 - 1930.

• Gale Health Reference Center Academic   -Over 2800 journals and magazines, many of which are full text. It contains nursing and allied health journals, other medical journals, newsletters and consumer health magazines. • NewsBank    - “America’s News Magazines” from NewsBank  includes full text articles from popular magazines.

•  Gale Academic OneFile  - Includes nearly 13,000 titles, more than 7,300 are peer-reviewed journals. Has extensive coverage of the physical     sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects.

• Gale General OneFile  - A general interest periodical resource with more than 12,000 titles, over 7,800 full-text. Subjects include humanities, education, environmental issues, technology, health care, politics and more.

Newspapers

• Gale Custom Newspapers  - A collection of 900 U.S. and international newspapers all in full-text form.

• Gale National Newspaper Index   - Offers indexing and abstracts from 1977 to present for the Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and USA Today. 

• Gale New York State Newspapers   - Provides full-text articles from 10 major New York State newspapers.

• NewsBank    - Full text access to the Syracuse Newspapers from 1986 to present. It also includes Rochester and Utica newspapers.
